Prizes: 1st - $20, 2nd - $18, 3rd - $12

Please make the butter 3-5 days prior to the fair in order to preserve the best freshness for judging.  Only one entry per exhibitor in each section.

Materials Needed:

Directions for Making Butter:

Fill a mason jar 3/4 full with ingredients. Place lid firmly and shake vigorously for approximately 15 min, or until the buttermilk separates from the butter solids.  Once the butter has separated, drain off the buttermilk (can be used in other baking such as muffins). Rinse the butter and squeeze several times under cold water to eliminate as many traces of buttermilk as you can.  This makes the shelf life longer.  Once it is thoroughly squeezed with little to no traces of the buttermilk, pat dry with a paper towel.  Place butter in refrigerator for best results.  Shelf life is approximately 1-2 weeks.

Directions for Butter Sculpting:

Bring on pound of butter to room temperature.  Create a butter sculpture by hand with no assistance from a mould or shaping object.  The size of the sculpture must not exceed a ten inch plate.  Minimum size must be no less than the use of a full pound of butter.  This may be a sculpture of any item, such as a farm animal, a pet, a sea creature, a vegetable, a household item or whatever your imagination chooses.  The sculpture may include edible decor, such as pretzels, licorice, gummy candy, skittles, etc.  Seasonal flowers for decoration  are also permitted.  Do not include any item that is not edible.  Use your imagination.  With a spatula or lifter, locate the sculpture on a paper plate with a label identifying the object created.

Butter Flavouring: Prizes: 1st - $20, 2nd - $18, 3rd - $12

In a small bowl, add your selected flavouring(s).  Roll the butter in the flavouring and place in your jar.  Store in fridge for best results.  Butter jar is to be labelled on the top with the flavouring selected, for judging.  Please note on the label the source of the milk, whether it is store bought, cows or other type.
